LeHo - f<strong>in</strong>anced by the Lifelong Learn<strong>in</strong>g Programme <strong>of</strong> the European Commission - is develop<strong>in</strong>g an<br />

onl<strong>in</strong>e hub that will provide tools <strong>and</strong> resources for those engaged or <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> home <strong>and</strong> hospital-based<br />

education for children with medical conditions. The <strong>in</strong>itiative is coord<strong>in</strong>ated by the Fondazione Politecnico<br />

di Milano <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>volves 9 organisations that <strong>in</strong>clude universities, hospital schools, IT solution providers <strong>and</strong><br />

European networks.<br />

In the first phase <strong>of</strong> this 3-year project, a def<strong>in</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> the key educational factors <strong>and</strong> highlight<strong>in</strong>g good<br />

practice <strong>in</strong> the field are the <strong>in</strong>itial outcomes that will be used to access further aims, such as provid<strong>in</strong>g a<br />

Practical Guide <strong>and</strong> a Toolkit for everybody <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> Home <strong>and</strong> Hospital Education (HHE) <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g<br />

medical staff, nurses, volunteers, teachers, parents, etc. By the end <strong>of</strong> the project, the result<strong>in</strong>g resource will<br />

target the policy makers <strong>and</strong> will conclude the experiences <strong>of</strong> the participants <strong>and</strong> contributors <strong>of</strong> LeHo,<br />

highlight<strong>in</strong>g strengths, challenges <strong>and</strong> weaknesses that may require further development across the<br />

partner countries.<br />

The LeHo onl<strong>in</strong>e hub is already available <strong>and</strong> <strong>open</strong> for everybody <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> the topic <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>cludes resources that are be<strong>in</strong>g developed or collected by the LeHo team. A Board <strong>of</strong> Experts was<br />

founded <strong>in</strong> order to support LeHo's work. Members <strong>of</strong> the BoE <strong>in</strong>clude pr<strong>of</strong>essionals with a high level <strong>of</strong><br />

experience <strong>in</strong> the field <strong>of</strong> HHE who also take on a liason role between the teachers, medical staff <strong>and</strong> the<br />

decision makers at policy level. Focus group discussions are <strong>and</strong> will be also presented on the onl<strong>in</strong>e hub.<br />

Ma<strong>in</strong> target groups <strong>of</strong> the project:<br />

• teachers already <strong>in</strong>volved or potentially <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> HHE;<br />

• other personnel/workers <strong>of</strong> schools not directly <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the education process:<br />

• technicians (IT adm<strong>in</strong>istrators, usually) <strong>in</strong> charge <strong>of</strong> ICT structures (from computers to webcam to<br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ter, scanners or cables...)<br />

• medical staff (nurses, doctors...)<br />

• volunteers <strong>and</strong> volunteers associations;<br />

• students, not only with medical needs but <strong>in</strong> general: this is because <strong>in</strong> many cases the students<br />

themselves are the ma<strong>in</strong> ‘eng<strong>in</strong>e’ <strong>and</strong> helpers for their classmates with medical need <strong>and</strong> even for<br />

their own teachers, especially <strong>in</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> technology.<br />
