Dichterwelt einschreiben.
Complex Artefacts in Sacral Spaces: Liturgical Furnishings in Romanesque
Campania
Elisabetta Scirocco
Ambone e candelabro pasquale
(part.), 1180 ca., Salerno, Cattedrale
The project deals with liturgical furnishings realized
within the medieval boundaries of Campania
over a span of one century, from the late eleventh
century through the first half of the twelfth. This
period, coinciding with the spiritual movement
of the Gregorian Reform, and with the Norman
Conquest which led to the unification of Southern
Italy under the newly established Kingdom of Sicily
(1130), witnessed an extensive production of liturgical
furnishings which developed in imposing
pulpits and high choir screens highly embellished
with mosaic inlays and sculptural figurations.
These monuments have been studied primarily
in relation to matters of style or iconography. The
aim of this project is instead to approach them as
complex artifacts. Only through a comprehensive analysis of their different components
– architectonical, decorative and figurative – together with a further investigation of their
ceremonial usage, can we develop a full understanding of their original configuration and
reception, and of the role they played within the sacral space of churches.
Le arti a dialogo. Medaglie e medaglisti tra Quattro e Settecento
Lucia Simonato
Girolamo Lucenti, Clemente X, particolare,
1671, piastra d’argento
