1. The Biblical Account<br />

1 Now Jehovah said uizto Abram, Get thee out of thy<br />

country, and from, thy kindred, and from thy father’s<br />

house, unto the land that I will show thee: 2 and I will<br />

make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, azd make<br />

thy name great; and be thou a b1essin.g: 3 a?.td I will bless<br />

them that bless thee, aiid him that curseth thee will I curse:<br />

and iiz thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed,<br />

5. So Abram went, as Jehovah h5ad spoken unto him; and<br />

Lo$ went with him: and Abram was seventy an,d five yews<br />

old when he departed out of Hwan. 5 And Abram took<br />

Sarai his wife, aizd Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance<br />

that they had gathered, aizd the souls tbdit they bad<br />

gotten in Haran; aiqd they went forth to go into the land<br />

of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came. 6 And<br />

Abram passed through the land i~izto the place of Shechem,<br />

unto the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in<br />

the land. 7 And Jehouah appeared uizto= Abram, and said,<br />

Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there budded he<br />

an altar unto Jehovah, who appeared uizto him. 8 And he<br />

removed from thence uiito the mountaiiz on the east of<br />

Bethel, aiid pitched his tentJ having Beth-el 011. the west,<br />

and Ai on, the east: and there he builded an altar unto<br />

Jehwah, and called upon the nmze of Jebowh. 9 And<br />

Abranz jouwieyed, going on still toward the South.<br />

10 And there was a famine in the land: aizd Abram<br />

weiit down iizto EgyPZ to sojoitriz there; for the famine was<br />

sore in the land. 11 And it came to ja~s, when he was<br />

come near to enter into Egypt, that he said uizto Sarai his<br />

wife, Behold I*OW, I know that thou art a fair woman to *<br />

look upon: 12 and it will come to pass, when the Egyptians<br />
