pufF up any <strong>on</strong>e, because it is a gift altoge<strong>the</strong>r free,<br />

and which proceeds purely from <strong>the</strong> will of God.<br />

He is master of his own gifts, but he divides <strong>the</strong>m<br />

by a will full of wisdom, and up<strong>on</strong> motives which are<br />

in himself, not in us, and which tend to <strong>the</strong> mani-<br />

festati<strong>on</strong> of his greatness and power, of his mercy<br />

and justice.<br />

" 27. All things are delivered unto me of my<br />

Fa<strong>the</strong>r : and no man knoweth <strong>the</strong> S<strong>on</strong>, but <strong>the</strong><br />

Fa<strong>the</strong>r; nei<strong>the</strong>r knoweth any man <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r, save<br />

<strong>the</strong> S<strong>on</strong>, and he to whomsoever <strong>the</strong> S<strong>on</strong> will reveal<br />

him."<br />

.This is a great truth, and <strong>the</strong> key of <strong>the</strong> science<br />

of salvati<strong>on</strong>. Christ is <strong>the</strong> sovereign dispenser of"<br />

this, and <strong>the</strong> Lord of all things, by <strong>the</strong> d<strong>on</strong>ati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

his Fa<strong>the</strong>r. All <strong>the</strong> springs, and <strong>the</strong> whole dispen-<br />

sati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> divine favours, are in <strong>the</strong> hand of<br />

Christ, as priest and sacrifice of God, as Saviour and<br />

mediator, head and pattern, pastor and sovereign<br />

judge of men. There is no knowledge, no belief of<br />

<strong>the</strong> mystery of <strong>the</strong> most Holy Trinity, but what is .<br />

a gift oF God by Jesus Christ, and according to his<br />

will. How lovely is this dependence 1 O Jesus, I<br />

accept it with joy, I desire to depend <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong>e.<br />

Make me know <strong>the</strong> Fa<strong>the</strong>r; make thyself known to<br />

me: but let <strong>the</strong> love in me be yet greater than <strong>the</strong><br />

knowledge.<br />

Sect. VI. The easy Yoke,<br />
