is instead of m<strong>on</strong>ey ; collati<strong>on</strong>s, nominati<strong>on</strong>s, and<br />

electi<strong>on</strong>s, made <strong>on</strong> any o<strong>the</strong>r motive than <strong>the</strong> glory<br />

of God, and <strong>the</strong> good of <strong>the</strong> church—<strong>the</strong>se are all<br />

fatal and damnable profanati<strong>on</strong>s, of which those in<br />

<strong>the</strong> temple were <strong>on</strong>ly a shadow.<br />

" 13. And said unto <strong>the</strong>m, It is written, My<br />

house shall be called <strong>the</strong> house of prayer; but ye<br />

have made it a den of thieves."<br />

If to do comm<strong>on</strong> and ordinary acti<strong>on</strong>s in a temple,<br />

which c<strong>on</strong>tained no more than a fi(£ure of <strong>the</strong> Chris-<br />

tian mysteries, denominate a man a thief in God's<br />

<strong>the</strong> blindness of sin, and <strong>the</strong> lameness of irregular<br />

affecti<strong>on</strong>s; or to enlighten <strong>the</strong>m by <strong>the</strong> divine word.<br />

" 15. 5f And when <strong>the</strong> chief priests and scribes<br />

saw <strong>the</strong> w<strong>on</strong>derful things that he did, and <strong>the</strong> chil-<br />
