Let us adore Jesus Christ, given up to <strong>the</strong> rage<br />

of <strong>the</strong> soldiers. He is <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>solati<strong>on</strong> of holy per-<br />

s<strong>on</strong>s in this c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>, and of <strong>the</strong> church exposed to<br />

<strong>the</strong> violence and insults of <strong>the</strong> men of <strong>the</strong> sword, and<br />

of <strong>the</strong> wicked. By being stripped in order to sufFer,<br />

to be mocked, and to clo<strong>the</strong> us with his righteousness,<br />

he c<strong>on</strong>demns and expiates that criminal unseemliness<br />

Let us pay our adorati<strong>on</strong>, and humble ourselves in<br />
