extends 2 miles off the mouth of the river, ia steep-to, and shoaling suddenly<br />

from about 15 fathoms to 3 fathoms ; it is usually .marked by fishing stakes.,<br />

Parcelar hill, or Bukit Jugru, on the left bank of th« Jugru<br />

at about 4 miles from the sea, is, when seen from the northward or west-<br />

ward, of an oblong shape doping at both ends, but from the southward it<br />

appears conical. It is thickly wooded, isolated, and the only hill standing<br />

near the sea coast ; it is easily known, and in clear Weather ihay be seen<br />

from a distance of 35 miles, '<br />

;. Langat village is 7 miles froni the sea by the Jugru branch. Jugru<br />

village, about 5 miles from the sisa, is situated near Parcelar hill, and about<br />

2 miles below Langat. <strong>The</strong> water is deep off Jugru village, and the granite<br />

faiCC' of Parcelar hill comes close down to the bank. <strong>The</strong>reis a policej^tation<br />

and a good landing place. <strong>The</strong> residency is on the slope of the hill, and<br />

the ;palace of the Sultan of Selangor is on the eastern side of the hill,<br />

with a road leading to it from the landing.<br />

white, erected on south point of entrance to Jugru river,is exhibited a<br />

/ixed white Hght, visible in clear weather from a distance of 4 miles.<br />

JBeaCOnS.—<strong>The</strong> entrance to the river across the bar is marked by<br />

white beacons on the port hand, and black beacons on the starboard hand.<br />

A police station with a red tiled roof is situated near the lighthouse.<br />

Directions.—<strong>The</strong> entrance to Jugru river may be recognised by'the<br />

police station and lighthouse on its south entrance point, the bar beacons,<br />

or by Parcelar hill. <strong>The</strong> latter kept, on a N.E. byvN. beafi'ng leads up to<br />

and between the bar beacons. A depth of 14 feet, hard bottom, was, found'<br />

on the bar at high-water springs, by H.M.S. Fit/, in 1S82.<br />

Within the bar the river is 200 yards Wide, aiid depths of from 3 to 8<br />

fathoms, as far as Parcelar hill, where several branches of the river unite,<br />

and where also there is anchorage. <strong>The</strong> tides in the river ate strong, and<br />

caution must be taken to avoid snags. Above Parcelar hill the river<br />

appears to be only navigable by steam launches.<br />

'<strong>The</strong> COAST.—Parcelar point, is situated about 9 miles south-<br />

eastward of Jugru river, and being round and similar to the adjacent coast<br />

is not easily distinguished, but a little eastward of the point there' is a<br />

white beach or patch on the shore, and a similar white patch about<br />

5 miles south-eastward of it. <strong>The</strong>re is a depth of 15 fathoms at about<br />

half a mile off the point.<br />

From Parcelar point the Coast takes an easterly direction for 12' miles to'<br />

Snngi Sepang, which is said to be navigable for craft drawing' 5 feet;<br />

thence in the same direction for 6 miles to Sungi 'Lukut; liheflOef south-'<br />

ward to Tanjong i£amuning, forming between the latter and the point<br />

eastward of Sepanig river a shallow bay 2 miles deep and 7 iniles across.
