by a reef, and a rock awash lies a mile oif its south end ; depths of<br />

4 and 5 fathoms extend about one mile southward and south-westward<br />

of it. At 4^ miles W, by S. of Tulo Singa is De lies rock, with 6 feet<br />

water, 12 fathoms around it, and nearly 2 miles off shore. <strong>The</strong> south<br />

extreme of Pulo Kaka open southward of Pulo Singsa leads southward of<br />

it, and Linga peak N.W. by W. leads westward.<br />

LINOA ROAD.—<strong>The</strong> bay forming Linga road is exposed to<br />

southerly and easterly winds, and large vessels are obliged to lie far out<br />

on account of shoal water extending from the mouth of the river, and<br />

around Pulo Colombo and its adjoining islets.<br />

Islets.— Reefs.—Pulo Colombo, the largest of these islets, lies nearly<br />

2 miles southward from the entrance of the river. Anlo and Ballang<br />

islets are both small, the former lying about a mile S.E., and the latter the<br />

same distance E. by S. from Colombo. About 2 miles westward of<br />

Colombo is another small islet named Pulo Badas, which is almost con-<br />

nected by reefs to Pulo Mapar, a larger islet about a mile to the northward,<br />

with a grove of cocoa-nut trees ; a village abreast contains about 300<br />

Malays and Chinese, chiefly fishermen.<br />

<strong>The</strong> following are the outermost of the dangers extending from the<br />

islets :—A shoal with 2 feet water lies with Pulo Bada?, distant 1^ miles,<br />

and in line with Pulo Mapar. Another shoal extends 2 miles S.S.E. from<br />

Pulo Anlo, having 1^ fathoms on its extreme ; Ponubo peak, bearing<br />

W. ^ N. leads half a mile southward of it, and nearly one mile southward<br />

of the 2-feet shoal oflF Pulo Badas.<br />
