islands will be seen on the starboard bow, and as they are ,approached-r-if<br />

the N. by W. f W. course has been preserved—Gresik island will be seen<br />

right ahead.<br />

Gresik island should be approached on a N. by W. f W. bearing until<br />

Ayer Lantju lighthouse bears N. by E., which will lead between Gresik<br />

island and the reefs extending northwai'd of the Lima islands. "When the<br />

nx)rth side of Ayer island opens northward of Gresik, steer N.N.W. ^ W.<br />

for Gaspar island, which will lead between Hewitt and Akbar shoals. To pass<br />

eastward of Abkar shoal, when Klemar island bears S. by W. | W., steer<br />

N. by E. J E., which will lead 4 miles westward of the dangers extending<br />

from Langgir island, and into the <strong>China</strong> sea eastward of Akbar shoal and<br />

Canning rock. Akbar shoal will be cleared by keeping Ayer Lantju light-<br />

house, half a point on either side of the bearing S.S.E. ^ E.<br />

Working through from the Southward.—Standing<br />

to the Eastward, towards Cambee rocks, Blantu hill must not be<br />

brought northward of N. by E. ; and to clear Naga rock, Anvang bank, and<br />

Cooper shoals, Gunong Bolo must not be brought westward of N. by W.<br />

Near Three-feet shoals, Gunong Bolo must be kept eastward of N. by E.<br />

<strong>The</strong> dangers southward of Pulo Selio should not be approached under a<br />

depth of 1-5 fathoms, or White rock brought to the westward of N. by W. j<br />

and when Gunong Bolo bears eastward of N.E. ^ E., White rock must be<br />

kept to the eastward of North, to avoid the edge of the bank which lies<br />

south-eastward from it. White rock should not be approached nearer than<br />

one mile, nor to a less depth than 14 fathoms; when northward of While<br />

rock it must not be brought anything southward of E.S.E. until the north<br />

point of Pulo Selio bears E. by N. ^ N., to clear Tiga rock. Njela bank<br />

should not be approached under a depth of 10 fathoms, or White rock<br />

brought southward of S.E. by S.<br />

Gunong Bolo kept eastward of S.E. by E. will lead clear of Njela bank,<br />

and south-westward of the foul ground between it and the Lima islands.<br />

Kasenga bearing North clears the dangers extending from the west side of<br />

Koss island ; and Ayer Lantju lighthouse bearing eastward of North, will<br />

lead clear of the rocks which extend northwai-d from Kasenga, and will<br />

also clear all dangers northward of the Lima islands. When Gresik island<br />

bears West a vessel will be northward of the reef extending from Kasenga<br />

and may stand eastward until the lighthouse bears N. ^ "W.<br />

Abreast of Pulo Ayam, Ayer Lantju lighthouse must not be brought to<br />

the westward of North. To clear the reef surrounding Hoog island, the<br />

lighthouse should not be brought to the southward of S.S.E. until Langgir<br />

island bears N.E. ; Hoog island, in line with the lighthouse, leads clear of<br />

the dangers westward of Langgir island.<br />
