NORTH SHORE.<br />

<strong>The</strong> SOUTH COAST of SUMAlTIlA, which forms the north<br />

shore of Sunda strait, between Flat cape on the west and Hog point on the<br />

east, a distance of VO mile^, is indented by two large bays,'named Semanka<br />

or Keyser, and Lampong, the shores of which are fronted by numerous<br />

island and rocks.f<br />

Plat Cape, Vlackenhuk, or Pamantyoss point, is the<br />

south-west extremity of Sumatra, and the north-west boundary of Sunda<br />

strait ; the neck of land of which it is the western extremity separates<br />

Keyser bay, on the east side, from Blimbing bay on the west side. <strong>The</strong><br />

south part of this neck of land is low and woody, the east end of it<br />

bounding the entrance of Keyser bay, is named cape Rada or Kechil, and<br />

is distant 10 miles from Flat cape.<br />

. Approaching<br />

Flat point, in thick weather, when the land cannot be seen,<br />

the soundings will be a' good guide, btit it is not advisable to get into less<br />

than 20 fathoms.<br />

A reeffringes the shote of Flat cape and thence to cape Rada, but at one<br />

mile distant there are depths of 7 to 10 fathoms. ' l. ,<br />
