6° 29' 52" N., long. 99° 10' 45" E. Between Observatory islet and Pulo<br />

Butong are seven small islands from 110 to 200 feet high, having no safe<br />

navigable channel between them.<br />

Pulo Butong shows with a sharp summit (928 feet) when seen from<br />

the n,orth-east or opposite direction ; anchorage may be obtained off the<br />

south-west side in 11 fathoms, sand and shells, one-third of a mile off<br />

shore.<br />

Pulo Rawi, the eastern mountain of which is 1,594 feet high and<br />

flat-topped, is separated from Pulo Butong by a channel a quarter of a mile<br />

wide. A small islet is situated close to the north-west point, to which it is<br />

joined by a reef at low water.<br />

Water.—A cascade of excellent water will be found on the west coast,<br />

half a mile south of the north-west point, and is a convenient watering<br />

place.<br />

Pulo Adang, the eastern of the two large islands, has a long sandy<br />

beach on the west side, fronted by a coral reef which extends one cable<br />

seaward. A small island, 98 feet high, lies 9 cables east from the north-<br />

west point of Pulo Adang.<br />

Dome mountain, 2,315 feet high, on the southern part of Pulo Adang, is<br />

conspicuous from all directions.<br />

Pulo NipiS is separated from the south side of Pulo Adang by a<br />

shallow channel three-quarters of a mile wide ;<br />

it has two hills, the western,<br />

385 feet high, being the higher.<br />

A rock, 12 feet high, lies one mile east-north-east from Pulo Nipis.<br />

Pulo Bisi is a narrow island one mile long and 424 feet high, 1^ miles<br />

off the north-east point of Pulo Adang. A rock 60 feet high lies 4^ cables<br />

south-eastward from the soulh point of Pulo Bisi, and another 1^ cables<br />

southward from the same point.<br />

Pin reof is a narrow ledge of coral, steep-to, one cable long, and has a<br />

rock 7 feet above high water near its centre.<br />

Pulo Tengah or Half-way island, situated midway between<br />

Pulo Adang and Pulo Trotau, are two islands nearly joined by boulders at<br />

low water. <strong>The</strong> highest part, 654 feet, is near the north end of the south<br />

island, and shows as a cone from the south-west.<br />

PULO LANKAWI (LANCAVA), separated from Pulo<br />

Trotau by a channel 3 miles wide, is mountainous and thickly wooded.*<br />

Gunong Eaya, 2,952 feet, the highest and most conspicuous mountain,<br />

is fituated near the middle of the island ; viewed from the westward, it<br />

makes as three peaks.<br />
