Fuel Emission and Exhaust System<br />

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION<br />

During deceleration, a high manifold vacuum is<br />

created behind the closed throttle plates and lean<br />

condition occurs due to the loss of air flow through<br />

the air flow sensor. To eliminate this lean condition<br />

which causes high hydrocarbon emissions, a bypass<br />

valve is located in each throttle plate.<br />

The by-pass valves open when the manifold<br />

vacuum is above the normal idling vacuum. This<br />

allows enough air flow to by-pass the throttle<br />

plates and permit continued fuel injection. Fig. 45.<br />
