BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER/FLUID RESERVOIR<br />

REMOVAL-Fig. 10<br />

1. Remove access cover from inside luggage<br />

compartment.<br />

2. Disconnect electrical connection to master<br />

cylinder cap.<br />

3. Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder,<br />

and cap to reduce spillage of brake fluid.<br />

4. Remove two (2) nuts securing master cylinder<br />

to power brake unit, and remove master<br />

cylinder.<br />

A small screwdriver with the end rounded and<br />

polished is required to remove the seals.<br />

5. Remove the filler cap and drain off surplus<br />

brake fluid; remove rubber washer.<br />

6. Remove the fluid reservoir from the master<br />

cylinder, by removing the two (2) roll pins.<br />

7. Remove the fluid reservoir and lever out the<br />

seals 2. (Fig. 10)<br />

INSTALLATION<br />

1. To install the fluid reservoir lubricate the seals<br />

and press the fluid reservoir into position on<br />

the cylinder. Install the fluid reservoir retaining<br />

pins and pin retaining clips.<br />

2. Install a new rubber washer 3 in the filler cap<br />

and screw the cap onto the reservoir.<br />

3. Locate the master cylinder on the studs of the<br />

brake servo unit.<br />

4. Install the two (2) locking washers and nuts<br />

and torque to specification.<br />

5. Remove covers/plugs and connect brake lines<br />

to master cylinder.<br />

6. Torque the brake line nuts to specification.<br />

7. Connect electrical connection to the cap on<br />

the master cylinder.<br />

8. Position and secure the access cover from<br />

inside the luggage compartment.<br />

9. Refill and bleed the brake system.<br />

TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE LOW<br />

FLUID WARNING DEVICE.<br />

1. Press the small rubber diaphragm located on<br />

the reservoir cap, if the brake warning light<br />

(on the instrument cluster) illuminates, the<br />

operation of the low fluid warning is correct.<br />

NOTE: This warning light will not indicate fault<br />

conditions in the braking system, other than<br />

the two functions explained.<br />

TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE<br />

PARKING BRAKE REMINDER<br />

1. Apply the parking brake, if the brake warning<br />

light illuminates, then it indicates that the<br />

operation of the parking brake reminder is<br />

correct.<br />

2. If the light does not illuminate check for bulb<br />

failure or continuity of electrical circuit.
