Disassembly<br />

Automatic Transmission G:08:03<br />

1. Remove Brake B-2 piston as outlined in the<br />

previous section.<br />

2. Remove the lock ring, pressure plate, and discs<br />

from the transmission case. Fig. 46<br />

3. Remove the two (2) sealing rings from the hub<br />

in the bottom of the case.<br />

Notice:<br />

The rings have locking ends that are released by<br />

pushing on the ring on the opposite side of the lock<br />

and depressing one side of the lock at the same<br />

time. After the lock is released, expand the ring<br />

with snap ring pliers and remove. Fig. 47<br />

4. Remove the washer, roller thrust bearing and<br />

adjustment shims from the hub in the bottom<br />

of the case.<br />

5. Compress the B1 piston return springs with the<br />

special tool J 28867/1 (part of the A T Tool<br />

Kit) and remove the lock ring securing the<br />

spring retaining plate. Fig. 48<br />

6. Remove the special tool and remove the spring<br />

retaining plate and coil springs.<br />

7. Remove the piston from the case and remove<br />

the piston seals.<br />

Reassembly ;^r<br />

Clean all parts and inspect for damage or scoring.<br />

1. Lubricate the two (2) square section seals with<br />

transmission fluid and fit them to the piston.<br />

2. Lubricate the inside of the case with<br />

transmission fluid. Position a strip of thin<br />

plastic sheet in the transmission case to<br />

prevent damage to the outer piston seal when<br />

installing the piston.
