REMOVAL<br />

Front Suspension J:08:01<br />

UPPER CONTROL ARM/BUSHINGS - RIGHT OR LEFT<br />

1. Raise car on hoist and remove tyre and wheel<br />

assembly.<br />

2. With suspension at full travel, remove nut<br />

securing upper ball joint to steering knuckle<br />

and separate ball joint from steering knuckle.<br />

The steering knuckle should be supported by<br />

wire and care should be exercised not to<br />

allow the steering knuckle assembly to pivot<br />

outward.<br />

3. Remove the upper control arm pivot bolt nut<br />

and remove pivot bolt. Remove control arm<br />

assembly from car.<br />

4. With upper control arm assembly removed<br />

from car and using an arbor press, press the<br />

control arm bushings from control arm. Fig. 14<br />

5. Press new control arm bushings into control<br />

arm.<br />

6. If control arm is being replaced, a new upper<br />

service ball joint must be installed into the<br />

upper control arm. By positioning and securing<br />

service replacement ball joint, install ball joint<br />

boot. Grease ball joint via its fittings and torque<br />

fasteners supplied to specification.<br />

Note:<br />

Service replacement upper control arms are<br />

supplied with new bushings installed.<br />

INSTALLATION<br />

To complete installation, reverse the removal<br />

procedures and torque fasteners to specification.
