REMOVING<br />

Main Bearing Oil Seal—Timing Gear End —Changing<br />

Remove<br />

alternator drive belt<br />

air conditioning drive belt<br />

exhaust muffler<br />

Rotate crankshaft until TDC timing mark on pulley<br />

is straight up. (Fig. 106)<br />

Remove crankshaft pulley nut. Remove pulley.<br />

Extract the old oil seal with a screw driver; do not<br />

mark the oil seal location.<br />

REFITTING<br />

Lubricate the new seal, fit it to inserting tool<br />

J28860 —offer up tool and seal, push the tool in<br />

until it contacts the timing cover which locates<br />

the oil seal correctly. (Fig. 107)<br />

Check the oil seal locating on the old pulley. Fit a<br />

new pulley if the old pulley is marked or worn;<br />

make sure it enters the key.<br />

Smear the bolt with 1 or 2 drops of ioctite and<br />

torque tighten the nut to 135 lb ft (183 nm).<br />

Refit<br />

exhaust muffler<br />

alternator drive belt<br />

air conditioning drive belt and tension
