1 THE FACILITY<br />

Chapter 1 of the safety analysis report (SAR) is an overview or an executive<br />

summary of topics covered in detail in other chapters. The applicant should<br />

include a general introduction to the SAR and the non-power reactor facility. The<br />

applicant should state the purpose of the SAR and briefly describe the application.<br />

1.1 Introduction<br />

Areas of Rview<br />

In this very brief introduction to the applicant and the facility, areas of review<br />

should include the following:<br />

* 'identification anid description of ihe applicant<br />

* -purpose and intended use of the reactor facility<br />

* geographical location<br />

* type and power level of the reactor ' '<br />

* inherent or passive safety features<br />

* unique design features, such as a pressurized primary coolant system or<br />

unique fuel design, which would be notable for a non-power reactor<br />

licensed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (<strong>NRC</strong>)<br />

Acceptance Crteria<br />

Acceptance criteria for the information in this section should include the following:<br />

* The purpose of the SAR should be clearly stated.<br />

* The applicant should be identified.<br />

* The location, purpose, and use of the facility should be briefly described.<br />

* The basic characteristics of the facility that affect licensing considerations<br />

should be briefly discussed.<br />

* lThe design or location features included to address basic safety concerns<br />

should be outlined.<br />
