that even at this state of planning the cargo box was designed to be
hermetically sealed, which could not have been accomplished with a
cable permanently affixed to the winch beneath the car. This is contradicted,
however, by the fact that already at that time the cargo box had
openings in its doors covered with “sliders,” which according to the letter
of 23 June 1942 were to be replaced with openings in the side walls
with hinged lids (see p. 327). Hence the cargo box has never been without
“leakage.”
