Oapellmeister to the Gnadenbild in St. Steplien's, REVUE ET GAZETTE MUSICALE, the<br />

<strong>and</strong> in 1715 hecame Oapellmeister <strong>of</strong> the cathedral<br />

oldest <strong>and</strong> most complete <strong>of</strong> French <strong>music</strong>al<br />

itself. He died August 29, 1738. His periodicals. This branch <strong>of</strong> literature has taken<br />

church <strong>music</strong> (see list in the Qu-ellcn-Zexikon), root in France with great difficulty. So far back<br />

so that 'rushing(rauschende) violins d laHeulter' (' Paul Smith '), Richard Wagner, <strong>and</strong> Johannes<br />

became a proverb. Burney heard one <strong>of</strong> them Weber. A careful reader <strong>of</strong> the forty -seven<br />

during his visit to Vienna in 1772, <strong>and</strong> says volumes will easily recognise the sentiments<br />

'it was dull, dry stuff; great noise <strong>and</strong> little <strong>of</strong> the various editors through whose h<strong>and</strong>s it<br />
