the upper, 45 keys, B—C. The upper<br />

have prolongations on the lowest Fit <strong>and</strong> Gtt<br />

keys lit an angle to touch the iourths below, in<br />

order to preserve the seuaitoiial succes«ion after<br />

the short octave <strong>of</strong> the lower keyboard, while<br />

securing the short octave <strong>of</strong> the upper. '<br />

Below<br />

£ <strong>of</strong> the upper is a wooden block described by<br />

Quirin van Blankenburg. This is the only<br />

Ruckei-8 known to Mr. Hipkins left unaltered<br />

in the instrument <strong>and</strong> keyboards. A restorer<br />

has taken away two rows <strong>of</strong> Jacks <strong>and</strong> the stops,<br />

as may be stlU seen ; making the instrument<br />

two indepepdent spinets, an eleventh apart in<br />

pitch, so as to Bet the keyboards with untransposed<br />

notes. Painted belly with date<br />
