C8’s ability to categorise pictures and words suggested that he could adequately<br />

access his semantic system and on the whole he was able to write real words<br />

correctly. However, C8 had some difficulty differentiat<strong>in</strong>g real from hear<strong>in</strong>g nonwords<br />

(suggest<strong>in</strong>g impairment to PIL pathway). Significantly, he demonstrated<br />

severe impairment with all spoken output, i.e. repetition <strong>of</strong> some words and nonwords,<br />

read<strong>in</strong>g aloud words and non-words, spoken nam<strong>in</strong>g and difficulties<br />

spell<strong>in</strong>g non-words (suggest<strong>in</strong>g impairment to PIL, APC, POL, OIL, POB, LPC<br />
