C11’s performance on the categorisation task <strong>in</strong>dicates that she was able to<br />

access her semantic system for mean<strong>in</strong>g. She could also copy words<br />

accurately. However as can be seen by Figure 5xiii above, apart from APA, ALI,<br />

VOR, SS and COPY LETTERS, many <strong>of</strong> the modules and pathways were<br />

impaired. C11 was unable to repeat, read aloud or spell any words or nonwords.<br />

Her husband advised that C11 had some read<strong>in</strong>g and spell<strong>in</strong>g difficulties<br />

prior to her stroke. C11 was also unable to name any pictures and her speech<br />

was un<strong>in</strong>telligible consist<strong>in</strong>g ma<strong>in</strong>ly <strong>of</strong> vowel-like sounds and s<strong>of</strong>t-contact<br />
