plosives. C11 was unable to narrate the C<strong>in</strong>derella story either <strong>in</strong> spoken or <strong>in</strong><br />

written form. Despite comprehension difficulties it was evident that C11<br />

understood all <strong>in</strong>structions especially when given demonstration. It was<br />

predicted that C11 would f<strong>in</strong>d it difficult to demonstrate the learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> new<br />

vocabulary due to her severe language impairment.<br />

5.16.1.4 Rehearsal and consolidation <strong>of</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Similar to C9 and C10, C11 required guidance organis<strong>in</strong>g her <strong>in</strong>dependent<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g time. She listened to the audio record<strong>in</strong>g and practised some <strong>of</strong> the<br />

assessment tasks. This was required for each <strong>of</strong> the four tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g sessions and<br />

although C11 was <strong>of</strong>fered the full 30 m<strong>in</strong>utes for each session she chose to<br />

utilise 50% <strong>of</strong> the allotted <strong>in</strong>dependent learn<strong>in</strong>g time.<br />

5.16.2 Demonstration <strong>of</strong> learn<strong>in</strong>g the new vocabulary<br />

C11’s performance on each assessment task is presented <strong>in</strong> Table 5.31 below<br />

with a summary <strong>of</strong> her ability to learn the new vocabulary for immediate recall<br />

assessments.<br />

5.16.2.1 Immediate recall<br />

C11 was unable to recall any <strong>of</strong> the 20 new words either <strong>in</strong> spoken or <strong>in</strong> written<br />

form. Due to un<strong>in</strong>telligible speech she did not read aloud. She recognised n<strong>in</strong>e<br />

words for listen<strong>in</strong>g tasks and three words for the read<strong>in</strong>g recognition tasks but<br />

had five false positive and one false negative response. C11 also had three<br />

false negative and five false positive responses for the basel<strong>in</strong>e results. C11<br />

was able to match one word (listen<strong>in</strong>g) and eight words (read<strong>in</strong>g) to the correct<br />

pictures. She also matched eight new words to their correct syllable number and<br />

matched <strong>in</strong>itial syllables for four words to their correct f<strong>in</strong>al syllable. C11 did not<br />

wish to take part <strong>in</strong> the delayed recall assessment phase.<br />
