The Excavations
Group 10662
Group (10662) contains several phases of a structure excavated at the northern part of the
farm mound research area. Excavations in 2008 of various demolition deposits from the
20 th century levelling of the farm mound had revealed a complex area of walls and
blockings framed by the external walls of a primary structure. This seemed to have gone
through various changes, such as a reduction in size during the course of its use (Gísladóttir
in Milek 2010, 74).
Excavations in 2009 confirmed that by the last phase of use (group 9530), the
primary structure (22.5m²) had been reduced by half. By this phase the structure was most
likely being used as a dwelling for animals (Gísladóttir in Milek 2010, 74-75).
