Message Format<br />

All TAIP communication uses printable, uppercase ASCII characters. The interface<br />

provides the means to configure the output of various sentences in response to queries<br />

or on a scheduled basis. Each sentence has the following general format:<br />

DDDD Optional 4 character vehicle ID<br />

Optional 2 character checksum<br />

< Delimiting character<br />

Signifies that x can occur any number<br />

of times<br />

[x]<br />

Signifies that x may optionally occur<br />

once<br />

Start of a New Message<br />

The > character (ASCII code 62 decimal) is used to specify the start of a new<br />

sentence.<br />

Message Qualifier<br />

A one character message qualifier is used to describe the action to be taken on the<br />

message. The following table lists the valid qualifiers.<br />

Query for a single sentence (sent to GPS receiver)<br />

Response to a query or a scheduled report (from the<br />

Schedule reporting frequency interval in seconds<br />

Specify a minimum distance traveled and a minimum and<br />

maximum time interval for the next report<br />

Note – All TAIP message characters must be in uppercase.<br />
