(<strong>JP</strong> 3-17)drug interdiction — A continuum <strong>of</strong> events focused on interrupting illegal drugs smuggledby air, sea, or l<strong>and</strong>. Normally consists <strong>of</strong> several phases – cueing, detection, sorting,monitoring, interception, h<strong>and</strong>over, disruption, endgame, <strong>and</strong> apprehension – somewhich may occur simultaneously. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-07.4)dry deck shelter — A shelter module that attaches to the hull <strong>of</strong> a specially configuredsubmarine to provide the submarine with the capability to launch <strong>and</strong> recover specialoperations personnel, vehicles, <strong>and</strong> equipment while submerged. The dry deck shelterprovides a working environment at one atmosphere for the special operations elementduring transit <strong>and</strong> has structural integrity to the collapse depth <strong>of</strong> the host submarine.Also called DDS. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-05.1)dual-capable aircraft — Allied <strong>and</strong> US fighter aircraft tasked <strong>and</strong> configured to performeither conventional or theater nuclear missions. Also called DCA.dual (multi)-purpose weapons — Weapons which possess the capability for effectiveapplication in two or more basically different military functions <strong>and</strong>/or levels <strong>of</strong> conflict.dual-purpose weapon — A weapon designed for delivering effective fire against air orsurface targets.dual-role tanker — Dual-role tankers carry support personnel, supplies, <strong>and</strong> equipment forthe deploying force while escorting <strong>and</strong>/or refueling combat aircraft to the area <strong>of</strong>responsibility. Dual-role tankers can minimize the total lift requirement whileproviding critical cargo <strong>and</strong> personnel at the combat aircraft’s time <strong>of</strong> arrival.
