(<strong>JP</strong> 3-08)interagency coordination — Within the context <strong>of</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Defense involvement,the coordination that occurs between elements <strong>of</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Defense, <strong>and</strong> engagedUS Government agencies <strong>and</strong> departments for the purpose <strong>of</strong> achieving an objective.(<strong>JP</strong> 3-0)interdepartmental or agency support — Provision <strong>of</strong> logistic <strong>and</strong>/or administrativesupport in services or materiel by one or more <strong>Military</strong> Services to one or moredepartments or agencies <strong>of</strong> the United States Government (other than military) with orwithout reimbursement. An action to divert, disrupt, delay, or destroy the enemy’s military surfacecapability before it can be used effectively against friendly forces, or to otherwiseachieve objectives. 2. In support <strong>of</strong> law enforcement, activities conducted to divert,disrupt, delay, intercept, board, detain, or destroy, under lawful authority, vessels,vehicles, aircraft, people, cargo, <strong>and</strong> money. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-03)intergovernmental organization — An organization created by a formal agreementbetween two or more governments on a global, regional, or functional basis to protect<strong>and</strong> promote national interests shared by member states. Also called IGO. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-08)intermediate maintenance (field) — Maintenance that is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> <strong>and</strong>performed by designated maintenance activities for direct support <strong>of</strong> usingorganizations. Its phases normally consist <strong>of</strong>: a. calibration, repair, or replacement <strong>of</strong>damaged or unserviceable parts, components, or assemblies; b. the emergencymanufacture <strong>of</strong> nonavailable parts; <strong>and</strong> c. providing technical assistance to usingorganizations.intermediate staging base — A tailorable, temporary location used for staging forces,sustainment <strong>and</strong>/or extraction into <strong>and</strong> out <strong>of</strong> an operational area. Also called ISB. Seealso base; staging base. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-35)intermodal — Type <strong>of</strong> international freight system that permits transshipping among sea,highway, rail, <strong>and</strong> air modes <strong>of</strong> transportation through use <strong>of</strong> American NationalSt<strong>and</strong>ards Institute <strong>and</strong> International Organization for St<strong>and</strong>ardization containers, linehaulassets, <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>ling equipment.
