(<strong>JP</strong> 4-0)supply — The procurement, distribution, maintenance while in storage, <strong>and</strong> salvage <strong>of</strong>supplies, including the determination <strong>of</strong> kind <strong>and</strong> quantity <strong>of</strong> supplies. a. producerphase — That phase <strong>of</strong> military supply that extends from determination <strong>of</strong> procurementschedules to acceptance <strong>of</strong> finished supplies by the <strong>Military</strong> Services. b. consumerphase — That phase <strong>of</strong> military supply which extends from receipt <strong>of</strong> finishedsupplies by the <strong>Military</strong> Services through issue for use or consumption. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-0)supply by air — See airdrop; air movement.supply chain — The linked activities associated with providing materiel from a rawmateriel stage to an end user as a finished product. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-09)supply chain management — A cross-functional approach to procuring, producing, <strong>and</strong>delivering products <strong>and</strong> services to customers. The broad management scope includessubsuppliers, suppliers, internal information, <strong>and</strong> funds flow. See also supply; supplychain. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-09)supply management — See inventory control.supply support activity — Activities assigned a Department <strong>of</strong> Defense activity addresscode <strong>and</strong> that have a supply support mission, i.e., direct support supply units, missilesupport elements, <strong>and</strong> maintenance support units. Also called SSA. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-09)support — 1. The action <strong>of</strong> a force that aids, protects, complements, or sustains anotherforce in accordance with a directive requiring such action. 2. A unit that helps anotherunit in battle. 3. An element <strong>of</strong> a comm<strong>and</strong> that assists, protects, or supplies otherforces in combat. The comm<strong>and</strong>er having primary responsibility for all aspects<strong>of</strong> a task assigned by the Joint Strategic Capabilities Plan or other joint operationplanning authority. 2. In the context <strong>of</strong> joint operation planning, the comm<strong>and</strong>er whoprepares operation plans or operation orders in response to requirements <strong>of</strong> theChairman <strong>of</strong> the Joint Chiefs <strong>of</strong> Staff. 3.
