(<strong>JP</strong> 3-60)damage criteria — The critical levels <strong>of</strong> various effects, such as blast pressure <strong>and</strong> thermalradiation, required to achieve specified levels <strong>of</strong> damage.damage estimation — A preliminary appraisal <strong>of</strong> the potential effects <strong>of</strong> an attack. Seealso attack assessment.damage expectancy (nuclear) — The probability that a weapon will arrive, detonate, <strong>and</strong>achieve at least a specified level <strong>of</strong> damage (severe or moderate) against a given target.Damage expectancy is a function <strong>of</strong> both probability <strong>of</strong> arrival <strong>and</strong> probability <strong>of</strong>damage <strong>of</strong> a weapon.danger close — In close air support, artillery, mortar, <strong>and</strong> naval gunfire support fires, it isthe term included in the method <strong>of</strong> engagement segment <strong>of</strong> a call for fire whichindicates that friendly forces are within close proximity <strong>of</strong> the target.
