As Amended Through 15 March 2012air refueling — The refueling <strong>of</strong> an aircraft in flight by another aircraft. Also called AR.(<strong>JP</strong> 3-17)air refueling control point — During refueling operations, the geographic point where thereceiver arrives in the observation or precontact position with respect to the tanker.Also called ARCP.air refueling control team — A cell within the joint air operations center <strong>and</strong> one <strong>of</strong> thecore teams in the air mobility division. Part <strong>of</strong> the air operations center that coordinatesaerial refueling planning, tasking, <strong>and</strong> scheduling to support combat air operations or tosupport a strategic airbridge within the area <strong>of</strong> responsibility or joint area <strong>of</strong> operations.Also called ARCT. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-17)air refueling control time — During refueling operations, the time the receiver <strong>and</strong> tankerarrive at the air refueling control point. Also called ARCT.air refueling initiation point — During refueling operations, a point located upstream fromthe air refueling control point (inbound to the air refueling control point) where thereceiver aircraft initiates the rendezvous. Also called ARIP.air request net — A high frequency, single sideb<strong>and</strong>, nonsecure net monitored by alltactical air control parties (TACPs) <strong>and</strong> the air support operations center (ASOC) thatallows immediate requests to be transmitted from a TACP at any Army echelondirectly to the ASOC for rapid response. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-01)air route — The navigable airspace between two points, identified to the extent necessaryfor the application <strong>of</strong> flight rules. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-52)air route traffic control center — The principal facility exercising en route control <strong>of</strong>aircraft operating under instrument flight rules within its area <strong>of</strong> jurisdiction.Approximately 26 such centers cover the United States <strong>and</strong> its possessions. Each has acommunication capability to adjacent centers.air smuggling event — In counterdrug operations, the departure <strong>of</strong> a suspected drugsmuggling aircraft, an airdrop <strong>of</strong> drugs, or the arrival <strong>of</strong> a suspected drug smugglingaircraft. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-07.4)air sovereignty — A nation’s inherent right to exercise absolute control <strong>and</strong> authority overthe airspace above its territory. See also air sovereignty mission.air sovereignty mission — The integrated tasks <strong>of</strong> surveillance <strong>and</strong> control, the execution<strong>of</strong> which enforces a nation’s authority over its territorial airspace.
