As Amended Through 15 March 2012board — An organized group <strong>of</strong> individuals within a joint force comm<strong>and</strong>er’s headquarters,appointed by the comm<strong>and</strong>er (or other authority) that meets with the purpose <strong>of</strong> gainingguidance or decision. Its responsibilities <strong>and</strong> authority are governed by the authoritywhich established the board. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-33)boat group — The basic organization <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong>ing craft. One boat group is organized foreach battalion l<strong>and</strong>ing team (or equivalent) to be l<strong>and</strong>ed in the first trip <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong>ing craftor amphibious vehicles. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)boat lane — A lane for amphibious assault l<strong>and</strong>ing craft, which extends from the line <strong>of</strong>departure to the beach. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)boat space — The space <strong>and</strong> weight factor used to determine the capacity <strong>of</strong> boats, l<strong>and</strong>ingcraft, <strong>and</strong> amphibious vehicles. With respect to l<strong>and</strong>ing craft <strong>and</strong> amphibious vehicles,it is based on the requirements <strong>of</strong> one person with individual equipment. The person isassumed to weigh 224 pounds <strong>and</strong> to occupy 13.5 cubic feet <strong>of</strong> space. In personnel recovery, the use <strong>of</strong> verbal or visual communication byindividuals who are unknown to one another, to establish their authenticity, sincerity,honesty, <strong>and</strong> truthfulness. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-0)branch — 1. A subdivision <strong>of</strong> any organization. 2. A geographically separate unit <strong>of</strong> anactivity, which performs all or part <strong>of</strong> the primary functions <strong>of</strong> the parent activity on asmaller scale. 3. An arm or service <strong>of</strong> the Army. 4. The contingency options built intothe base plan used for changing the mission, orientation, or direction <strong>of</strong> movement <strong>of</strong> aforce to aid success <strong>of</strong> the operation based on anticipated events, opportunities, ordisruptions caused by enemy actions <strong>and</strong> reactions.
