As Amended Through 15 March 2012rescue combat air patrol — An aircraft patrol provided over that portion <strong>of</strong> an objectivearea in which recovery operations are being conducted for the purpose <strong>of</strong> intercepting<strong>and</strong> destroying hostile aircraft. Also called RESCAP. See also combat air patrol.(<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)rescue coordination center — A unit, recognized by International Civil AviationOrganization, International Maritime Organization, or other cognizant internationalbody, responsible for promoting efficient organization <strong>of</strong> search <strong>and</strong> rescue services<strong>and</strong> coordinating the conduct <strong>of</strong> search <strong>and</strong> rescue operations within a search <strong>and</strong>rescue region. Also called RCC. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)reserve — 1. Portion <strong>of</strong> a body <strong>of</strong> troops that is kept to the rear, or withheld from action atthe beginning <strong>of</strong> an engagement, in order to be available for a decisive movement. 2.Members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Military</strong> Services who are not in active service but who are subject tocall to active duty. 3. Portion <strong>of</strong> an appropriation or contract authorization held or setaside for future operations or contingencies <strong>and</strong>, in respect to which, administrativeauthorization to incur commitments or obligations has been withheld. See alsooperational reserve.Reserve Component — The Armed Forces <strong>of</strong> the United States Reserve Componentconsists <strong>of</strong>: a. the Army National Guard <strong>of</strong> the United States; b. the Army Reserve;c. the Navy Reserve; d. the Marine Corps Reserve; e. the Air National Guard <strong>of</strong> theUnited States; f. the Air Force Reserve; <strong>and</strong> g. the Coast Guard Reserve. The three Reserve Component categories are Ready Reserve,St<strong>and</strong>by Reserve, <strong>and</strong> Retired Reserve. Each reservist is identified by a specificReserve Component category designation. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-05)reserved obstacles — Those demolition obstacles that are deemed critical to the plan forwhich the authority to detonate is reserved by the designating comm<strong>and</strong>er. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-29)residual capabilities assessment — Provides an automated or manual crisis actioncapability to assess the effects <strong>of</strong> weapons <strong>of</strong> mass destruction events for operationsplanning.
