(JP 5-0)crisis management — Measures to identify, acquire, and plan the use of resources neededto anticipate, prevent, and/or resolve a threat or an act of terrorism. It is predominantlya law enforcement response, normally executed under federal law. Also called CrM.(JP 3-28)critical asset — A specific entity that is of such extraordinary importance that itsincapacitation or destruction would have a very serious, debilitating effect on the abilityof a nation to continue to function effectively. (JP 3-07.2)critical asset list — A prioritized list of assets, normally identified by phase of the operationand approved by the joint force commander, that should be defended against air andmissile threats. Also called the CAL. (JP 3-01)critical capability — A means that is considered a crucial enabler for a center of gravity tofunction as such and is essential to the accomplishment of the specified or assumedobjective(s). (JP 5-0)critical information — Specific facts about friendly intentions, capabilities, and activitiesvitally needed by adversaries for them to plan and act effectively so as to guaranteefailure or unacceptable consequences for friendly mission accomplishment. (JP 2-0)critical infrastructure protection — Actions taken to prevent, remediate, or mitigate therisks resulting from vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure assets. Depending on therisk, these actions could include: changes in tactics, techniques, or procedures; addingredundancy; selection of another asset; isolation or hardening; guarding, etc. Alsocalled CIP. (JP 3-28)critical intelligence — Intelligence that is crucial and requires the immediate attention ofthe commander. It is required to enable the commander to make decisions that willprovide a timely and appropriate response to actions by the potential or actual enemy.It includes but is not limited to the following: a. strong indications of the imminentoutbreak of hostilities of any type (warning of attack); b. aggression of any natureagainst a friendly country; c. indications or use of chemical, biological, radiological,nuclear, or high-yield explosives weapons; and d. significant events within adversarycountries that may lead to modifications of nuclear strike plans.
