(<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)search <strong>and</strong> rescue — The use <strong>of</strong> aircraft, surface craft, submarines, <strong>and</strong> specialized rescueteams <strong>and</strong> equipment to search for <strong>and</strong> rescue distressed persons on l<strong>and</strong> or at sea in apermissive environment. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)search <strong>and</strong> rescue point — A predesignated specific location, relative to which isolatedpersonnel provide their position to recovery forces. Also called SARDOT. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)search <strong>and</strong> rescue region — An area <strong>of</strong> defined dimensions, recognized by theInternational Civil Aviation Organization, International Maritime Organization, orother cognizant international body, <strong>and</strong> associated with a rescue coordination centerwithin which search <strong>and</strong> rescue services are provided. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)SEASHED — A temporary deck in container ships for transport <strong>of</strong> large military vehicles<strong>and</strong> outsized breakbulk cargo that will not fit into containers. See also outsized cargo.(<strong>JP</strong> 4-01.6)sea state — A scale that categorizes the force <strong>of</strong> progressively higher seas by wave height.This scale is mathematically co-related to the Pierson-Moskowitz scale <strong>and</strong> therelationship <strong>of</strong> wind to waves.
