Terrorism is <strong>of</strong>ten motivated by religious, political, or otherideological beliefs <strong>and</strong> committed in the pursuit <strong>of</strong> goals that are usually political. Seealso antiterrorism; combating terrorism; counterterrorism; force protectioncondition. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-07.2)terrorist threat level — An intelligence threat assessment <strong>of</strong> the level <strong>of</strong> terrorist threatfaced by US personnel <strong>and</strong> interests in a foreign country. The assessment is based on acontinuous intelligence analysis <strong>of</strong> a minimum <strong>of</strong> five elements: terrorist groupexistence, capability, history, trends, <strong>and</strong> targeting. There are four threat levels: LOW,MODERATE, SIGNIFICANT, <strong>and</strong> HIGH. Threat levels should not be confusedwith force protection conditions. Threat level assessments are provided to seniorleaders to assist them in determining the appropriate local force protection condition.(The Department <strong>of</strong> State also makes threat assessments, which may differ from thosedetermined by Department <strong>of</strong> Defense.) (<strong>JP</strong> 3-07.2)theater — The geographical area for which a comm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>of</strong> a geographic combatantcomm<strong>and</strong> has been assigned responsibility. (<strong>JP</strong> 1)theater antisubmarine warfare comm<strong>and</strong>er — A Navy comm<strong>and</strong>er assigned to developplans <strong>and</strong> direct assigned <strong>and</strong> attached assets for the conduct <strong>of</strong> antisubmarine warfarewithin an operational area. Normally designated as a task force or task groupcomm<strong>and</strong>er <strong>and</strong> responsible to a Navy component comm<strong>and</strong>er or joint force maritimecomponent comm<strong>and</strong>er. Also called TASWC. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-32)theater-assigned transportation assets — Transportation assets that are assigned under thecombatant comm<strong>and</strong> (comm<strong>and</strong> authority) <strong>of</strong> a geographic combatant comm<strong>and</strong>er.See also combatant comm<strong>and</strong> (comm<strong>and</strong> authority); single manager fortransportation. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-01)theater detainee reporting center — The field operating agency <strong>of</strong> the national detaineereporting center. It is the central tracing agency within the theater, responsible formaintaining information on all detainees <strong>and</strong> their personal property within a theater <strong>of</strong>operations or assigned area <strong>of</strong> operations.
