(<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)sea barge — A type <strong>of</strong> barge-ship that can carry up to 38 loaded barges. It may also carrytugs, stacked causeway sections, various watercraft, or heavy lift equipment to bettersupport joint logistics over-the-shore operations.seabasing — The deployment, assembly, comm<strong>and</strong> projection, reconstitution, <strong>and</strong> reemployment<strong>of</strong> joint power from the sea without reliance on l<strong>and</strong> bases within theoperational area. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)sea control operations — The employment <strong>of</strong> naval forces, supported by l<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> airforces as appropriate, in order to achieve military objectives in vital sea areas. Suchoperations include destruction <strong>of</strong> enemy naval forces, suppression <strong>of</strong> enemy seacommerce, protection <strong>of</strong> vital sea lanes, <strong>and</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong> local military superiorityin areas <strong>of</strong> naval operations. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-32)sea echelon — A portion <strong>of</strong> the assault shipping which withdraws from or remains out <strong>of</strong>the transport area during an amphibious l<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> operates in designated areas toseaward in an on-call or unscheduled status. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)sea echelon area — In amphibious operations, an area to seaward <strong>of</strong> a transport area fromwhich assault shipping is phased into the transport area, <strong>and</strong> to which assault shippingwithdraws from the transport area. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)sea echelon plan — In amphibious operations, the distribution plan for amphibiousshipping in the transport area to minimize losses due to enemy attack by weapons <strong>of</strong>mass destruction <strong>and</strong> to reduce the area to be swept <strong>of</strong> mines. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)SEAL delivery vehicle team — United States Navy forces organized, trained, <strong>and</strong>equipped to conduct special operations with SEAL delivery vehicles, dry deck shelters,<strong>and</strong> other submersible platforms. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-05)sealift enhancement features — Special equipment <strong>and</strong> modifications that adapt merchanttypedry cargo ships <strong>and</strong> tankers to specific military missions. They are typicallyinstalled on Ready Reserve Force ships or ships under <strong>Military</strong> Sealift Comm<strong>and</strong>control. Sealift enhancements fall into three categories: productivity, survivability, <strong>and</strong>operational enhancements. Also called SEFs.
