As Amended Through 15 March 2012sensitive compartmented information facility — An accredited area, room, group <strong>of</strong>rooms, or installation where sensitive compartmented information may be stored, used,discussed, <strong>and</strong>/or electronically processed, where procedural <strong>and</strong> physical measuresprevent the free access <strong>of</strong> persons unless they have been formally indoctrinated for theparticular sensitive compartmented information authorized for use or storage within thesensitive compartmented information facility. Also called SCIF. See also sensitivecompartmented information. (<strong>JP</strong> 2-01)sensitive site — A geographically limited area that contains, but is not limited to, adversaryinformation systems, war crimes sites, critical government facilities, <strong>and</strong> areassuspected <strong>of</strong> containing high value targets. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-31)sequel — The subsequent major operation or phase based on the possible outcomes(success, stalemate, or defeat) <strong>of</strong> the current major operation or phase. See alsobranch. (<strong>JP</strong> 5-0)serial — 1. An element or a group <strong>of</strong> elements within a series which is given a numericalor alphabetical designation for convenience in planning, scheduling, <strong>and</strong> control. 2. Aserial can be a group <strong>of</strong> people, vehicles, equipment, or supplies <strong>and</strong> is used in airborne,air assault, amphibious operations, <strong>and</strong> convoys. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)serial assignment table — A table that is used in amphibious operations <strong>and</strong> shows theserial number, the title <strong>of</strong> the unit, the approximate number <strong>of</strong> personnel; the material,vehicles, or equipment in the serial; the number <strong>and</strong> type <strong>of</strong> l<strong>and</strong>ing craft <strong>and</strong>/oramphibious vehicles required to boat the serial; <strong>and</strong> the ship on which the serial isembarked. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)seriously ill or injured — The casualty status <strong>of</strong> a person whose illness or injury isclassified by medical authority to be <strong>of</strong> such severity that there is cause for immediateconcern, but there is not imminent danger to life. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-<strong>02</strong>)seriously wounded — A casualty whose injuries or illness are <strong>of</strong> such severity that thepatient is rendered unable to walk or sit, thereby requiring a litter for movement <strong>and</strong>evacuation. See also evacuation; litter; patient. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-<strong>02</strong>)service ammunition — Ammunition intended for combat rather than for training purposes.Service-common— Equipment, material, supplies, <strong>and</strong> services adopted by a <strong>Military</strong>Service for use by its own forces <strong>and</strong> activities. These include st<strong>and</strong>ard military items,base operating support, <strong>and</strong> the supplies <strong>and</strong> services provided by a <strong>Military</strong> Service tosupport <strong>and</strong> sustain its own forces, including those assigned to the combatantcomm<strong>and</strong>s. Items <strong>and</strong> services defined as Service-common by one <strong>Military</strong> Service arenot necessarily Service-common for all other <strong>Military</strong> Services.
