As Amended Through 15 March 2012personal locator beacon — An emergency device carried by individuals, to assist locatingduring personnel recovery. Also called PLB. See also emergency locator beacon.(<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)personal locator system — A system that provides rough range <strong>and</strong> bearing to isolatedpersonnel by integrating the survival radio (if equipped with a transponder) with anairborne locating system, based on an encrypted communications homing system. Alsocalled PLS. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-50)personal property — Property <strong>of</strong> any kind or any interest therein, except real property,records <strong>of</strong> the United States Government, <strong>and</strong> naval vessels <strong>of</strong> the following categories:surface combatants, support ships, <strong>and</strong> submarines. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-06)personal protective equipment — The equipment provided to shield or isolate a personfrom the chemical, physical, <strong>and</strong> thermal hazards that can be encountered at ahazardous materials incident. Personal protective equipment includes both personalprotective clothing <strong>and</strong> respiratory protection. Also called PPE. See also individualprotective equipment. (<strong>JP</strong> 1-0)personnel accountability — The process <strong>of</strong> identifying, capturing, <strong>and</strong> recording thepersonal identification information <strong>of</strong> an individual usually through the use <strong>of</strong> adatabase. (<strong>JP</strong> 1-0)personnel effects inventory <strong>of</strong>ficer — An <strong>of</strong>ficer appointed to establish clear chain <strong>of</strong>custody for all personal effects <strong>of</strong> an individual from the time they establish control <strong>of</strong>the effects until they release the effect to mortuary affairs personnel. Also calledPEIO. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-06)personnel increment number — A seven-character, alphanumeric field that uniquelydescribes a non-unit-related personnel entry (line) in a Joint Operation Planning <strong>and</strong>Execution System time-phased force <strong>and</strong> deployment data.
