As Amended Through 15 March 2012amphibious demonstration — A type <strong>of</strong> amphibious operation conducted for the purpose<strong>of</strong> deceiving the enemy by a show <strong>of</strong> force with the expectation <strong>of</strong> deluding the enemyinto a course <strong>of</strong> action unfavorable to him. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious force — An amphibious task force <strong>and</strong> a l<strong>and</strong>ing force together with other forcesthat are trained, organized, <strong>and</strong> equipped for amphibious operations. Also called AF. Seealso amphibious operation; amphibious task force; l<strong>and</strong>ing force. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious lift — The total capacity <strong>of</strong> assault shipping utilized in an amphibiousoperation, expressed in terms <strong>of</strong> personnel, vehicles, <strong>and</strong> measurement or weight tons<strong>of</strong> supplies. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious objective area — A geographical area (delineated for comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> controlpurposes in the initiating directive) within which is located the objective(s) to besecured by the amphibious force. This area must be <strong>of</strong> sufficient size to ensureaccomplishment <strong>of</strong> the amphibious force’s mission <strong>and</strong> must provide sufficient area forconducting necessary sea, air, <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> operations. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious operation — A military operation launched from the sea by an amphibiousforce, embarked in ships or craft with the primary purpose <strong>of</strong> introducing a l<strong>and</strong>ingforce ashore to accomplish the assigned mission. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious planning — The process <strong>of</strong> planning for an amphibious operation,distinguished by the necessity for concurrent, parallel, <strong>and</strong> detailed planning by allparticipating forces. The planning pattern is cyclical in nature, composed <strong>of</strong> a series <strong>of</strong>analyses <strong>and</strong> judgments <strong>of</strong> operational situations, each stemming from those that havepreceded. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious raid — A type <strong>of</strong> amphibious operation involving swift incursion into ortemporary occupation <strong>of</strong> an objective followed by a planned withdrawal. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious shipping — Organic Navy ships specifically designed to transport, l<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong>support l<strong>and</strong>ing forces in amphibious assault operations <strong>and</strong> capable <strong>of</strong> being loaded orunloaded by naval personnel without external assistance in the amphibious objectivearea. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious squadron — A tactical <strong>and</strong> administrative organization composed <strong>of</strong>amphibious assault shipping to transport troops <strong>and</strong> their equipment for an amphibiousassault operation. Also called PHIBRON. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-<strong>02</strong>)amphibious task force — A Navy task organization formed to conduct amphibiousoperations.
