As Amended Through 15 March 2012tempest — An unclassified term referring to technical investigations for compromisingemanations from electrically operated information processing equipment; theseinvestigations are conducted in support <strong>of</strong> emanations <strong>and</strong> emissions security. (<strong>JP</strong> 2-01.2)temporary interment — A site for the purpose <strong>of</strong>: a. the interment <strong>of</strong> the remains if thecircumstances permit; or b. the reburial <strong>of</strong> remains exhumed from an emergencyinterment. (<strong>JP</strong> 4-06)terminal — A facility designed to transfer cargo from one means <strong>of</strong> conveyance to another.(Conveyance is the piece <strong>of</strong> equipment used to transport cargo; i.e., railcar to truck ortruck to truck. This is as opposed to mode, which is the type <strong>of</strong> equipment; i.e., ship torail, rail to truck.) See also facility. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-09.3)terminal clearance capacity — The amount <strong>of</strong> cargo or personnel that can be movedthrough <strong>and</strong> out <strong>of</strong> a terminal on a daily basis.terminal control — 1. The authority to direct aircraft to maneuver into a position to deliverordnance, passengers, or cargo to a specific location or target. Terminal control is atype <strong>of</strong> air control. 2. Any electronic, mechanical, or visual control given to aircraft t<strong>of</strong>acilitate target acquisition <strong>and</strong> resolution. See also terminal guidance. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-09.3)terminal control area — A control area or portion there<strong>of</strong> normally situated at theconfluence <strong>of</strong> air traffic service routes in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> one or more major airfields.See also control area; controlled airspace; control zone. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-52)terminal guidance — 1. The guidance applied to a guided missile between midcourseguidance <strong>and</strong> arrival in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> the target. 2. Electronic, mechanical, visual, orother assistance given an aircraft pilot to facilitate arrival at, operation within or over,l<strong>and</strong>ing upon, or departure from an air l<strong>and</strong>ing or airdrop facility. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-03)terminal guidance operations — Those actions that provide electronic, mechanical, voiceor visual communications that provide approaching aircraft <strong>and</strong>/or weapons additionalinformation regarding a specific target location. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-09)terminal operations — The reception, processing, <strong>and</strong> staging <strong>of</strong> passengers; the receipt,transit, storage, <strong>and</strong> marshalling <strong>of</strong> cargo; the loading <strong>and</strong> unloading <strong>of</strong> modes <strong>of</strong>transport conveyances; <strong>and</strong> the manifesting <strong>and</strong> forwarding <strong>of</strong> cargo <strong>and</strong> passengers todestination.
