Also called OCCA.(<strong>JP</strong> 4-01.2)oceanography — The study <strong>of</strong> the sea, embracing <strong>and</strong> integrating all knowledge pertainingto the sea <strong>and</strong> its physical boundaries, the chemistry <strong>and</strong> physics <strong>of</strong> seawater, <strong>and</strong>marine biology. From a military perspective, oceanography includes basicoceanography plus the study <strong>of</strong> bathymetry, hydrography, geophysics, astrometry <strong>and</strong>precise time; supported by ocean engineering, operational supercomputing, <strong>and</strong>operations research. (<strong>JP</strong> 3-59)<strong>of</strong>fensive counterair — Offensive operations to destroy, disrupt, or neutralize enemyaircraft, missiles, launch platforms, <strong>and</strong> their supporting structures <strong>and</strong> systems bothbefore <strong>and</strong> after launch, but as close to their source as possible. Offensive counterairoperations range throughout enemy territory <strong>and</strong> are generally conducted at theinitiative <strong>of</strong> friendly forces. These operations include attack operations, suppression <strong>of</strong>enemy air defenses, fighter escort, <strong>and</strong> fighter sweep. Also called OCA.
