Chapter three - Steve Wohlberg 133to withhold your support of his ministry? We pray that all will have spiritualdiscernment to choose God rather than man.Pastor Wohlberg, you have not brought glory to God in working against themessages of repentance and reformation that are so desperately needed byGod’s people. What we stated to Linda Kirk in chapter 7, we include here foryou: Being almost persuaded is not enough. Our prayer is that you can againreceive the joy you once had as you read the messages in Ernie’s dreams fromyour Savior. Whatever it is that pulled you away from the dreams, whether itwas fear, jealousy, pride, or just listening to others’ ideas, please take it to Godin prayer and to His Word with an open mind and humble heart, that you mayhear that still, small voice again calling you back to Jesus. The Desire of Ages, pp. 321-323It was just before this that Jesus had a second time performed themiracle of healing a man possessed, blind and dumb, and the Phariseeshad reiterated the charge, "He casteth out devils through the prince of thedevils." Matthew 9:34. Christ told them plainly that in attributing thework of the Holy Spirit to Satan, they were cutting themselves off fromthe fountain of blessing. Those who had spoken against Jesus Himself, not discerning His divine character, might receive forgiveness; forthrough the Holy Spirit they might be brought to see their error andrepent. Whatever the sin, if the soul repents and believes, the guilt iswashed away in the blood of Christ; but he who rejects the work of theHoly Spirit is placing himself where repentance and faith cannot come tohim. It is by the Spirit that God works upon the heart; when men willfullyreject the Spirit, and declare It to be from Satan, they cut off the channelby which God can communicate with them. When the Spirit is finallyrejected, there is no more that God can do for the soul. The Pharisees to whom Jesus spoke this warning did not themselvesbelieve the charge they brought against Him. There was not one of thosedignitaries but had felt drawn toward the Saviour. They had heard theSpirit's voice in their own hearts declaring Him to be the Anointed ofIsrael, and urging them to confess themselves His disciples. In the light ofHis presence they had realized their unholiness, and had longed for arighteousness which they could not create. But after their rejection ofHim it would be too humiliating to receive Him as the Messiah. Havingset their feet in the path of unbelief, they were too proud to confess theirerror. And in order to avoid acknowledging the truth, they tried withdesperate violence to dispute the Saviour's teaching. The evidence of Hispower and mercy exasperated them. They could not prevent the Saviourfrom working miracles, they could not silence His teaching; but they dideverything in their power to misrepresent Him and to falsify His words.Still the convicting Spirit of God followed them, and they had to build upmany barriers in order to withstand its power. The mightiest agency thatcan be brought to bear upon the human heart was striving with them, butthey would not yield. It is not God that blinds the eyes of men or hardens their hearts. Hesends them light to correct their errors, and to lead them in safe paths; it isby the rejection of this light that the eyes are blinded and the heart
