276the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTHConversions are not all alike. Jesus impresses the heart, and the sinneris born again to new life. Often souls have been drawn to Christ whenthere was no violent conviction, no soul rending, no remorseful terrors. They looked upon an uplifted Saviour; they lived. They saw the soul'sneed; they saw the Saviour's sufficiency and His claims; they heard Hisvoice saying, "Follow Me," and they rose up and followed Him. . . .Those men who calculate just how religious exercises should beconducted, and are very precise and methodical in diffusing the light andgrace that they seem to have, simply do not have much of the Holy Spirit. The Desire of Ages, p. 172The wind is heard among the branches of the trees, rustling the leavesand flowers; yet it is invisible, and no man knows whence it comes orwhither it goes. So with the work of the Holy Spirit upon the heart. It canno more be explained than can the movements of the wind. A person maynot be able to tell the exact time or place, or to trace all the circumstancesin the process of conversion; but this does not prove him to beunconverted. By an agency as unseen as the wind, Christ is constantlyworking upon the heart. Little by little, perhaps unconsciously to thereceiver, impressions are made that tend to draw the soul to Christ. Thesemay be received through meditating upon Him, through reading theScriptures, or through hearing the word from the living preacher.Suddenly, as the Spirit comes with more direct appeal, the soul gladlysurrenders itself to Jesus. By many this is called sudden conversion; but itis the result of long wooing by the Spirit of God,--a patient, protractedprocess.Material aspects of heavenJohn 14:2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I wouldhave told you. I go to prepare a place for you.Revelation 21:21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of onepearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.Isaiah 65:25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat strawlike the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurtnor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.James 1:12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, heshall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them thatlove him.God is the One who revealed those material aspects of heaven. It was His wayof showing His great love to us. Is Linda still willing to call it “shallow andsuperficial”?
