Chapter two - Ángel M. Rodríguez 51Ernie includes in the narratives of his dreams passages from the Bible andstatements from the Spirit of Prophecy that support the message of hisdreams. In other words, he is trying to demonstrate that his messages aresupported by God’s previous revelations to his people.”ExplanationThis point was covered in chapter 1, under the heading, Footnoted dreams asfollows.Ernie’s dreams contain footnotes to get the readers started with theirown research of God’s words. Ernie could have added many additionalreferences, but individuals need to find their own with the Holy Spirit’shelp. There are also cases where some individuals do not have access tothese references. Footnotes were also added to help explain parts of thedreams. Ellen White gave Bible references in her writings. God’s truthalways agrees with itself. Isaiah 28:10 says, “For precept must be uponprecept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.” Ernie’s dreams also contain Bible and Spirit ofProphecy in the dreams themselves. These came directly from the Lordduring the dreams.FactEllen White quoted a lot of Bible verses in her writings. In one vision she wasshown fifty Bible verses she included (see Early Writings, pp. 24 to 31). Godcommands us: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether theyare of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” 1 John4:1. How do we “try the spirits”? “To the law and to the testimony: if they speaknot according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20.SummationQuoting from the Bible and Spirit of Prophecy does not prove that Ernie is tryingto prove his calling. It rather shows there is no conflict between what he hasbeen shown and what has been previously revealed. The references are notprovided to bring attention to Ernie but to help God’s people. We are to “try thespirits” “to the law and to the testimony.”ConclusionIt wouldn’t make any difference whether Ernie Knoll quoted Bible and Spirit ofProphecy in his dreams or not. His critics would condemn him either way. BothJesus and John the Baptist were treated the same. “For John came neithereating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eatingand drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, afriend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.” Matthew11:18-20. What method does Angel Rodríguez use to “try the spirits”?Dreams irrelevant for the Church?Rodríguez says: (see Appendix E)“This makes his dreams almost irrelevant for the church. What weneed to do is read the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy.”“This makes his dreams almost irrelevant for the church”? What is ElderRodríguez saying? Since “passages from the Bible and statements from theSpirit of Prophecy support the messages of his dreams,” are they irrelevant?
