Chapter four - Eugene Prewitt 145pleading with the Lord. I fell asleep, and in the night season I was taughtof God. My guide said, "I have a work for you to do. You must speak thewords given you by the Lord. The Acts of the Apostles, p. 469The apostle Paul early in his Christian experience was given specialopportunities to learn the will of God concerning the followers of Jesus. He was "caught up to the third heaven," "into paradise, and heardunspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." He himselfacknowledged that many "visions and revelations" had been given him"of the Lord." His understanding of the principles of gospel truth wasequal to that of "the very chiefest apostles." 2 Corinthians 12:2, 4, 1, 11.He had a clear, full comprehension of "the breadth, and length, and depth, and height" of "the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge." Ephesians3:18, 19.Paul could not tell all that he had seen in vision; for among his hearerswere some who would have misapplied his words. But that which wasrevealed to him enabled him to labor as a leader and a wise teacher, andalso molded the messages that he in later years sent to the churches. Theimpression that he received when in vision was ever with him, enablinghim to give a correct representation of Christian character.S.D.A. Bible Commentary, Vol. 6, p. 1106Through Paul God has given many wonderful lessons for ourinstruction. In his visions Paul saw many things not lawful for a man toutter. But many other things which he saw in the heavenly courts werewoven into his teachings. The truth flashed from his lips as a sharp, twoedgedsword. The impressions made upon his mind by the Holy Spiritwere strong and vivid, and they were presented to the people in a waythat no one else could present them. Paul spoke in the demonstration ofthe Spirit and with power (Letter 105, 1901).S.D.A. Bible Commentary, Vol. 6, p. 1107Mysteries which had been hidden for ages were revealed to him [Paul],and as much as he could bear of the workings of God, and of His dealingswith human minds, was made known. The Lord told Paul that he mustpreach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ. Light was tobe given to the Gentiles. This is a mystery which had been hidden forages (ST Jan. 30, 1912).The Acts of the Apostles, p. 302Paul was an inspired apostle. The truths he taught to others he hadreceived "by revelation . . .John 16:13-14Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into alltruth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, thatshall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me:for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
