178the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTHday of judgment is upon us. O that we may wash our robes of character, and make them white in the blood of the Lamb!Evangelism, p. 701Today you are to have your vessel purified, that it may be ready for theheavenly dew, ready for the showers of the latter rain; for the latter rainwill come, and the blessing of God will fill every soul that is purifiedfrom every defilement. The Adventist Home, p. 240The mother's influence is an unceasing influence; and if it is always onthe side of right, her children's characters will testify to her moralearnestness and worth. Her smile, her encouragement, may be aninspiring force. She may bring sunshine to the heart of her child by aword of love, a smile of approval. . . .The Review and Herald, May 4, 1886A religion of simple faith in the all-atoning, sacrifice of Christ, and ofimplicit obedience to God's moral rule of right, will make the householdsuch a one as Heaven can smile upon. It will be productive of purity andpeace; for they are obeying that Guide who came from heaven to earth tolead erring man to the mansions above.Manuscript Releases, Vol. 7, p. 46It is the privilege of every one who has a part in any branch of theLord's work to know that his sins are forgiven, and to rejoice in theassurance of a higher life in the courts above. This hope is more preciousthan silver or gold or precious stones. Keep this hope ever bright, andseek to impart it to others. In the knowledge that God's smile rests uponyou, your heart will be filled with joy and peace. The Review and Herald, October 11, 1887There are many who view themselves as defective in character whenthey look into God's moral mirror, his law; but they have heard so muchof "All you have to do is to believe, only believe that Jesus has done it all,and you have nothing to do in the matter," that after venturing to look intothe mirror they straightway go from it retaining all their defects, with thewords on their lips, "Jesus has done it all." These are represented by thefigure that James has marked out--the man beholding himself and goingaway and forgetting what manner of man he was. "Be ye doers of theword, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." James has toldwhat is to be done: "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity ofnaughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is ableto save your souls." Faith and works are the two oars that must be used tourge the bark against the current of worldliness, pride, and vanity; and ifthese are not used, the boat will drift with the current downward toperdition. God help us to take care of the inward adorning; to set the heartin order as carefully as we arrange the outward apparel.
