Chapter four - Eugene Prewitt 165At this time visions were given me to correct the errors of those whohad taken extreme views of some texts of scripture, and refrained whollyfrom labor, and rejected all those who would not receive their views onthis point, and some other things which they held to be religious duties.God revealed these errors to me in vision, and sent me to his erringchildren to declare them; but many of them wholly rejected the message, and charged me with conforming to the world. On the other hand, thenominal Adventists charge me with fanaticism, and I was falsely, and bysome, wickedly, represented as being the leader of the fanaticism I waslaboring constantly to arrest by bearing my testimony given me of God.ConclusionMr. Prewitt again shows that his heart is not open to God sending a prophet.Like the people of Jesus’ day, Mr. Prewitt is willing to accept dead prophets, butthe living word of God he is unwilling to accept. Of course there is going to befanaticism, but this is no reason for raising objections against Ernie’s dreams.“Prove all things” is the Bible’s admonition.Cannot accept dreams even if there is no error inthem?Prewitt says: (see Appendix I)“Yes, I will have to answer before the Great Judge. So also, reader, will you. You can not be too careful how you hear, how you accept. Ifthere are no ‘glaring inconsistencies’ nor ‘untruthful utterances’ inErnie’s work, that will not be cause enough to advocate his dreams. Thatis how Jones fell into advocating the false dreams of the young lady.”FactAlthough we must be on guard against false prophets, we are also warned notto despise prophesyings.God says:1 Thessalonians 5:20-21Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which isgood. The Acts of the Apostles, p. 263The apostle cautioned the Thessalonians not to despise the gift ofprophecy, and in the words, "Quench not the Spirit; despise notprophesyings; prove all things; hold fast that which is good," he enjoineda careful discrimination in distinguishing the false from the true.Isaiah 8:20To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to thisword, it is because there is no light in them.John 8:31-32Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue inmy word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
