(More on these issues areaddressed elsewhere in this book.)If a church member knows of a self-supporting ministry that does not teacherror, would benefit from financial assistance, and the Holy Spirit convicts themto help because the conference is not helping, they should be able to donatetheir tithes and offerings directly to that ministry. Additionally, if a churchmember sees problems in their local conference that are detracting fromspreading the gospel and the teaching of righteousness, they should first followthe biblical counsel to try to address these issues with the church leadership. Ifthere is no change, they should not withhold their tithe but should be allowed toredirect it to a ministry of their choice where it brings honor and glory to God.This is part of accountability. This issue is found throughout the Scriptures andthe writings of Ellen White. It extends to every facet of our lives including ourtime, our bodies, our actions, our words and thoughts, and our financialresources, including how we allocate our tithes and offerings.To show what the policy was before 1985, please refer to chapter 1/The use oftithe/Document file 213.ConclusionHistory shows us that the Church has “nothing to fear for the future except aswe shall forget the way the Lord has led us.” (Testimonies to Ministers andGospel Workers, p. 31)Are tributes tithe?Wohlberg says: (see Appendix G)“After talking with Ernie and Becky, I was very satisfied that they aresincere Adventists who want nothing more than for Jesus to come soon.Because of this, I remained sympathetic, but still cautious, for a numberof months.Yet everything changed when I read the Feb. 08 dream, particularlywhat ‘the Herald’ said about tithe. Page 4 says:The Herald turns to me and says, ‘It is important that Hispeople understand while it is important that we are to return atithe to God’s storehouse, it is equally important that theyunderstand what the funds are being used for. If an individualis providing funds and they understand that the funds are notbeing used according to His will, that person will be heldaccountable. The Great Creator has said to pay a tribute tothose who do His bidding. The Herald explains that manytributes are used toward Lucifer’s work of using spiritualismfrom within God’s church by those who collect and place thefunds in a storehouse. The Herald says, ‘That is not God’sstorehouse…’
