Chapter Eight – Laura Lee Jones 339SummationDavid Starkey invited Ernie to speak in his area. When Ernie discussed the144,000, David was concerned because it was not correct, so he providedErnie with some Spirit of Prophecy references. Ernie accepted these andchanged his understanding of the 144,000. Since it was David who wasinstrumental in showing Ernie the truth of the 144,000, and since he wasErnie’s webmaster from the beginning, why would he post dreams thatcontradicted his own understanding of the 144,000? Laura Lee expects us tobelieve that after David convinced Ernie he was wrong, he then put on thewebsite Ernie’s dream that “supposedly” contradicted Ellen White regarding the144,000. This does not make sense.ConclusionSimply because Ernie had a wrong understanding of the 144,000 doesn’t meanhis dreams are not of God. At the time of Christ, John the Baptist and all theJews, including the disciples, had a wrong conception of the Messiah’s firstAdvent. William Miller and those who expected Jesus to return in 1844,including Ellen White, misunderstood the 2,300 day prophecy. Joseph Batestried to share the truth of the Sabbath with Ellen White, but she refused toaccept it, and this was after she had started receiving visions. God takes uswhere we are and reveals His truth to us.Personal interpretationLaura Lee Jones says: (see Appendix M)“I wasn’t sure whether or not this was his own, personal interpretationof the 144,000 or whether or not he had expressly been told this in thedream.“I asked Ernie, point blank: ‘Is this what you believe about the144,000, or was this told you by the Great Instructor in your dream – thatthe 144,000 have been being made up since 1844 and that some will beresurrected at the special resurrection?’ (Initially, he never referred toJesus in his dream. He only ever referred to the ‘Great Instructor.’Referring to the Great Instructor as ‘Jesus’ is part of later editing.)“Ernie promptly answered, ‘The Great Instructor explained it all to mein the dream.’“ ‘Just like that?’ I pressed.“ ‘Just like that,’ he insisted. Ernie went on to say that he wasn’t a bigBible scholar and the Great Instructor knew that, so He’d had to tell Ernieeverything He wanted him to know.”FactWe must remember this phone conversation cannot be verified; therefore, it isnot proof of what Ernie supposedly said. The simple facts are that Hemisunderstood what he was shown, interpreting what Jesus had said to himbased on his own understanding of the 144,000. Ernie knows full well that Godis not going to reveal everything He wants him to know. That is why the Lordstressed Bible and Spirit of Prophecy study and prayer in the dreams.
