74the TRUTH, the whole TRUTH, and nothing but the TRUTHgiven great light and who had stood as guardians of the spiritual interestsof the people, had betrayed their trust. They had taken the position thatwe need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God'spower as in former days. Times have changed. These words strengthentheir unbelief, and they say: The Lord will not do good, neither will Hedo evil. He is too merciful to visit His people in judgment. Thus "Peaceand safety" is the cry from men who will never again lift up their voicelike a trumpet to show God's people their transgressions and the house ofJacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones whofeel the just vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and littlechildren all perish together.Other channelsWohlberg says: (see Appendix G)“[Ellen White] God's reserved resources are to be used in no suchhaphazard way. The tithe is the Lord's, and those who meddle with it willbe punished with the loss of their heavenly treasure unless they repent.Let the work no longer be hedged up because the tithe has been divertedinto various channels other than the one to which the Lord has said itshould go (9T 249).Steve’s comment: The title issue is a life and death matter. Thus who‘meddle’ with it will be ‘punished’ with the ‘loss of their heavenlytreasure.’ The tithe is not to be diverted into other channels, or paid in a‘haphazard way,’ for this would hinder God’s work.Summary comments: Ellen White’s position is clear. Those who don’t pay their tithe because they think itis not being used right, aid the enemy. Under no circumstances are we towithhold our tithe from ‘the treasury.’ Thus, in this instance, it seems that‘the Heralds’ counsel and Ellen White’s counsel are not in agreementwith each other here. ‘The Herald’ contradicts her counsel, yet he saysthat it ‘important’ for God’s people to understand what he says.”FactPastor Wohlberg has once again taken Ellen White’s statements out of context.God says:Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 9, p. 249Some have been dissatisfied and have said: "I will not longer pay mytithe; for I have no confidence in the way things are managed at the heartof the work." But will you rob God because you think the management ofthe work is not right? Make your complaint, plainly and openly, in theright spirit, to the proper ones. Send in your petitions for things to beadjusted and set in order; but do not withdraw from the work of God, andprove unfaithful, because others are not doing right.Read carefully the third chapter of Malachi and see what God saysabout the tithe. If our churches will take their stand upon the Lord's wordand be faithful in paying their tithe into His treasury, more laborers willbe encouraged to take up ministerial work. More men would give
